Don't quit your day job but...

Review the following slide show.  What are at least three trends you notice from one millionaire to another?  What business idea interests you the most?  Why?  If someone came up to you and offered you a million dollars to tell them your best entrepreneur idea what would your idea be? Or if you want to keep it a secret, what issue would it address?  Why?

  1. Three trends I notice from these young millionaires are: Don't think about the money, do something you are passionate about, and to not let anyone tell you you can't accomplish your dream. I like the idea that not thinking about the money is an important aspect. This isn't to say you should ignore the finances of your business, but to let your goals and passion lead your business, and not your profits. This makes for an excellent business architecture. The issues I would address are customer service, it seems that most business' modern day have issues maintaining their customers due to bad customer service, I think by coming up with a better motto for handling customer issues keeping a customer base will help keep a good business going.

    1. You have a good idea. Customer service can be a real pain. We need people to help make it better.

    2. I like the idea of business. Not many people think about that way that costumer can affect a business.

    3. I agree that customer service is probable the most important aspect that many business look over. I think that your idea to expand that would be a great business opportunity.

  2. The first thing these millionaires have in common is the internet. Every millionaire has a website, the internet and their idea are the two most important keys in their success. Second, these millionaires did not have a college education by the time they started their business. Lastly, they didn't do any of this alone. Some were just a partnership, others had people behind the scenes that didn't get credit, but at the very least they had a support system. The yearbook website interests me the most, because even though you lose touch with some former classmates, you can get on this site and reminisce or even try and contact them. If I got the chance, I would create an app. It would be for girls to connect and get help from other girls about girl stuff. I realize there are sites like this, but turning it into an app makes it more accessible seeming as almost everyone has a smartphone.

    2. I love your idea about an app! This would definitely be a hit.

  3. All these people used technology in some sort of way whether it being the internet or making computers. Each one now has a website for their respective business. They all had a passion for what they were making. They were all very ambitious, they did not wait for things to happen, they went out and made it happen. I was very interested in the Facebook one by Zuckerberg, it has impacted almost everyone in the world. You cannot go anywhere without seeing someone on facebook. I would like to make an app that helps you market yourself as an athlete, like a facebook profile for recruiting. You could put film of yourself competing and have a place for schools to "like" you. That would take a lot of hassle out of both ends.

    1. The app would help out a lot of high school kids for colleges. Also, it would help a lot of college kids get scouted by other colleges. Good idea

    2. I've never heard of anything like that app, nor have I ever thought of the idea myself, but it sounds like a great idea. People all over the world would be able to use that, and for good reasons. Great idea!

    3. I love your app idea, as you said it would make things a whole lot easier for both athletes and recruiters!

  4. First, everyone used some kind of technology to support their business. They all have a website to show and support their business. Second, none of them had a college degree when they started creating their business and started making money. Third, they believed in their dreams. When someone doubted them or didn't believe it didn't stop them from succeeding. The one that I found the most interesting was the online yearbook. I never really heard much about that, but I think it is an amazing idea! It lets people stay in contact with each other and lets you be able to look for someone that you grew up with. I think that there could be problems with people trying to steal or copy your work with it being online. To help improve it, it would be better if they improved accessibly. Be able to access it through something other than a computer or internet.

    1. I agree with making it more accessible! Like creating an app, since everything else has an app.

    2. yes having more accessibility would be nice. not everyone can have internet or immediate access at least. Tori has a good idea as well, everything these days has an app. now to find a good name, cuz nowadays nobody is creative anymore with their app titles

  5. The first thing I noticed about these millionaires was that they don't seem to think about the start up cost of making an idea come to life. They also seem to all suggest starting as soon as possible and not let anything stand in your way. The final thing I noticed about them is that they all have a weird sense of support network. I am not sure which idea interests me the most they were all interesting, but nothing I would personally invest in (assuming I had the money). If I were offered that much money to create something, I would suggest creating something that can be installed into any easily lost device (controller, remote, keys) that could be called, like a cell phone, when you can't find it. I believe this item would be helpful for many people because it would allow them to more easily locate an item that they need.

    1. That is a great idea and I feel it is one of those things that you think of and wonder why it hasn't been invented yet. That is also something that nearly every one, if not every single person could use. Wonderful idea!

    7. This is a great entrepreneur idea and it is also beneficial. I could find my remote when I misplace it :)

    8. I really like this idea. I hope someone comes up with something like this soon.

    9. Great idea! I feel like most of us lose our most important items (phone, keys, etc.) at the worst possible times and having something like this would make everyone's lives a whole lot less stressful!

  6. The majority of the millionaires have made there money from computers and technology, Another trend among the people in the article, passion, they loved what they were doing. The third trend is personality, determination, confidence, natural problem solvers. If someone offered me a million dollars for an idea, i would tell them. Will I tell the class a full idea, nope. I'll tell you one that i currently still have on the burner. Earlier last year I started a Facebook page "KnockinTheBakken". My page jumped to 4,000 likes in about a month. Some of my posts went to about 250,000 people. Since then i have let the page die, but i still have instant access to those people. This is my first step in introducing a brand. There is possibly more to come.

    1. That is cool that you got that many likes on that page! I am interested in how your brand is going to be!

    2. Good to see that you know how to promote well! a quarter of a million people is a lot of people to start out even if it's just a page. Good luck with your brand!

    3. That is great that your page was/is so popular! Good luck with everything!!

    4. That would be pretty awesome to have even a locally popular brand!

  7. First thing that caught my eye was that they were all very young. Some of them were making a million dollars with not even being 20 yet. Another thing that caught my attention was that most of them had something to do with the internet. They also had an interest in what they created. I feel like that is the main thing for whatever you are going to do in life. I have an entrepreneur idea, but I would rather not say it because I think it is too good. If someone came up to me with a million dollars I feel as if I would turn them down as weird as it sounds.

  8. The connections I made were that you shouldn't let money stop you. Start small and work your way up. The internet is a great source of information and a great way to get feed back. Also you should be passionate in what you want to market. There isn't much there if you don't have the passion for your work. Non of the ideas stood out in particular to me. They all were interesting in their own ways. I can't really think of anything great for an idea. A way to know a list of things you can make with what you have in you kitchen would be nice. I know I have a hard time deciding on what to cook some nights, especially when it seems that there isn't much to cook with. But I've been surprised as to what I've been able to make with what I have at my disposal.

    1. Your idea for what to cook for a meal with what you have is really smart, I never would have thought about that and now that I do it would be really nice to have!

    2. This would be a really good idea. I could see creating an app for your phone that someone could punch in ingredients they have around their house and the app could shoot out a suggestion for those ingredients.

  9. After looking at the slide shows, the first thing I noticed was that all of the people were not set out to become millionaires. It was definitely not about the money from the start, but from an idea or dream that they had. I really liked that and I think that it shows that hard work really does pay off. Another thing I noticed was that all of them gave advice to go for your goals, no matter how big. They all said that no matter your age, you should always shoot for what you believe in. A third thing that I noticed most of the millionaires had in common was that they used technology as a major source in their marketing. Many on the list used websites, or even started their own website(s). I think this is great to see people using technology beneficially. Currently, If I were handed a million dollars and wanted to start some business, I think that I would want to start up some sort of childcare at Williston State. I know for a fact that it would flourish. There are so many people in this area with children, or who are having children and daycare costs a fortune. I think this would help many people out, including me.

    1. I love your idea for a childcare facility at the college! So many people would use it! There is a huge demand for those around here too.

      Delete
    2. And students who are going into some type of childcare field could get part time jobs or internships!

      Delete
    3. That would be a great idea. I have to admire how you would be nice enough to allow others a safe and affordable place to leave their children while they are at work.

  10. The three trends I noticed would have to be- 1) a majority of them have to do with technology and using it to the fullest. 2) they all said to do something you are passionate about and lastly 3) It seems like a majority of them either were in the midst of collage or had no collage education prior to being millionaires.
My business interest and idea if I were given a Million dollars would be to open up an automobile accessory shop were you could come in and get high quality parts such as lift kits, rims/tires, exhaust, performance parts, for anything from little 4 cylinder cars to diesels. I would also then like to have a restoration shop or something as well. It would be kind of similar to as what Blaine's auto Body is but more diverse and more in stock parts.
Why? Because I have had an interest in cars and performance parts/ accessories since I was a youngster.

    2. Williston definitely needs a good vehicle shop. Sell all kinds of stuff to people with way to much money.

  11. the three trends I noticed were 1. That almost all of them made websites for profit. 2. Most of them had people doubt their ideas. 3. Their ideas mostly served someone to make their life easier or more enjoyable. The business idea that interests me the most is the Hear and Play Music Group because it seems like a very helpful and inventive idea. If I was offered one million dollars to tell my idea it would be a website that would help people who were looking for colleges to attend by having you fill out or choose certain options that help narrow the search. I would choose this because I feel many pre-college student could benefit from this.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think this is a great idea. Many students now don't know of all the colleges out there. And many students do know what they would like to go into in the future but just don't know of any colleges that offer it!

      Delete
    2. I think this would help many people who are looking for a college to attend, but don't know where to start. Helping them find the colleges that would actually assist in moving towards their dream or goal.

  12. One trend I noticed is that most all of them started in their mid to early teens. another is that most of them are from websites(most of them some sort of social networking site). And the last would be that all of them were just simply doing what they loved. They had no intentions of making money, they just wanted to create something cool and something people would remember them for. The business idea that interested me the most was facebook. Facebook was revolutionary but I don't see why it was as big of a deal as it was. Facebook had the same concepts as myspace and myspace wasn't nearly as successful with their website. I just don't get how myspace could have been created before just with less popularity. Could it have something to do with Generation? Or older people using facebook? If someone offered me a million dollars I don't really know what I would say. I think it would be pretty cool to make some sort of snowball gun. I'm sure this has already been created somewhere, but I think that if you could make a kid friendly snowball gun that packs and shoots the gun then I think you would make a lot of money. Kids like guns, and kids like snowball fights. If I were to keep it a secret it would be because I honestly thought that my product would make a lot more then 1 million dollars. I'm not giving up more money!!!!!

    1. I used to have myspace, but I deleted because it was boring. I think myspace was not as successful as Facebook because myspace was focusing on promoting music only.

  13. The trends I noticed from one millionaire to the next was:
    1. They all found something they loved and were passionate about and the ran with it.
    2. Not all of them have a college degree.
    3. They all used the internet in some way for their business.
    4. Most of their advice seemed to be very similar.

The business that interests me the most is Facebook. I am interested in this because I use it constantly to keep in touch with friends and family and it is fascinating to me how something so simple could generate so much publicity and earnings.

If I was offered a million dollars for an entrepreneur idea I would definitely use it for a foster home that offered a lot more than the ones we have today. It
would be big enough to house a large number of children and teenagers and have workshops for training and better education. It would be a way for foster kids to overcome the obstacles they face when they reach a certain age and it would help them have a forever home and a family for life.

    1. A better foster home is a great idea!! I like that

  14. I noticed that all the millionaires in the slideshow were very passionate about the way they made their careers. Not only that but all of them made their first million before the age of 25, and some before even graduation high school. In addition they don't show any signs of chalking it up as a win and retiring, they really enjoy what they do. Out of all the ways the entrepreneurs had become successful, I think the most interesting one is the idea of facebook. Out of the millions of social websites on the internet facebook has become wildly successful. I would like to state that if I had an idea I believed to be worth a million dollars, I would never have met you. I would have began making my millions. If I had to pretend I thought I had an idea worth a million dollars it would be a totally organic grocery store. The front half of the store being where customers purchase the groceries, and the back half being a hydroponic farm. Separating the two halves would be a glass wall, the customers would literally see where their food was grown. Of course no animals could be grown in store and no packaged foods. But fruits and vegetables could be grown in mass quantities and organically. I would have stacks built so the floor up to the ceiling could be utilized.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i love this idea. around here or anywhere you cant find much organic foods. i am a diabetic and organic is way better for me than anything else it is just so expensive. maybe you can have an affordable organic store as well. i love the idea of the glass wall so people really know what they are eating. i cant wait to see this idea in effect!!!

      Delete
    2. I really like the idea of people being able to see where their food came from. It would be a successful store in a bigger city.

      Delete
  15. some things that i found out reading the powerpoints are that most of them had a goal and and they all had a plan to successively make that plan happen even tho some of them didant go to collage they still were smart enough to start there own business. some of them started of with some sort of online strategy to get started with there business.
a business that i would start is a T-shirt business on the shirt is would say MMIG with crazy logos my audience would be teen 14-17 and adults the MMIG stands for me myself and i gang with teaches people that they don't need to be in a crowd they can just be by themselves and that will give them confidence in and outside of school.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I like your idea about crazy T-shirts. If you start your business, I will be your first costumer.

    2. We both have the same idea with cray shirts and i know our business would run well.

      Delete
  16. The three traits or trends that i noticed were passion, motivation, and that they all started at a very young age. Not many people can say they made a million dollars before the age of twenty five. The one i found most interesting was the idea of the preteen cartoon characters and books. I have always loved art and think that this is the best way to relate to life is through art, after all everything is considered art.
If offered a million dollars, i dont know what i would do or which idea i would have. i would be afraid to say my idea and then have it shot down. that is a large burden to withhold. now a ten dollar bill for every idea that was good...that would be a lot less pressure.
One idea i have is kinda like the make a wish foundation, but for more ages and more diseases. including terminal ones that were known from birth and if the child is to young to do anything than some kind of supposrt for the family. so many people have been lost to cancer, muscular distrophy, and multiple schlorosis, and these are only a few. I had to whitness all of these sad diseases when i was only a child. i was told i would die from my cancer. what that must feel like for parents and other loved ones i cant imagine. i still had to see if i would qualify for make a wish. i got my wish but it shouldnt have to be such a low percentage, every child should get a chance to have their wish granted before death cuz not all calculations are true. i was told i would die but i didnt, so theres your proof that their calculations were wrong!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. The three trends I noticed are that they all started at their youthful age, they were all passionate, and most of them started their business with the use of technology. Launching social networking websites interests me the most because every day thousands of new accounts are created on social networking sites, though many have a very short lifespan because people get bored of the same thing.
My best entrepreneur idea would be to invent a food replicator that would end world hunger. This replicator would make any food you want, all you have to do is say what food you want to eat. Therefore, on a general level, it is necessary to understand the people who will use the service, including lazy and hungry people. The disadvantage of having it is, a lot of people would be lazy and will completely stop cooking but on the bright side, it saves money and people wouldn't be hungry.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I noticed that all of these young entrepreneurs didn't go out looking for ways to become rich, instead they pursued the things that they were passionate about and that is what made them successful. It was impressive that they didn't wait until they had received a degree before they started pursuing their dreams, but just set a goal and went for it. Also, none of them let their early success become a reason to slow down, they continue to follow after their dreams and grow their companies.
My favorite idea was the online yearbook, I think that is such a great idea to be able to easily stay connected with old school friends.
My entrepreneurial idea would be to create the ultimate scholarship website where a student could make a profile and receive customized scholarships sent to them based on their interests, sports, activities, intended major, etc. The site would have access to all scholarships available and would also offer statistics for each scholarship such as how many people on average apply for it and what is your estimated chance of receiving it based on the information in your profile. I know that there are many scholarship websites out there, but I know that I have wasted lots of time sifting through scholarships and could have really benefited from a website like this.

  19. The three trends I noticed from these millionaires were their young ages, their knowledge of technology, and their passion for their own ideas. The entrepreneur that I admire the most from this list is Mark Zuckerberg. I think Facebook has been the best idea among social networks. My entrepreneur idea does not worth a million of dollars, but it means a lot for me. Six months ago, I started doing bilingual podcast (English and Spanish) for my page on SoundCloud. My goal for this year is to reach more audience around the globe.

    1. This sounds very interesting. Good luck on expanding this idea!

    2. Facebook is one of the most successful social websites. I think you have a great thing going for yourself! My husband went to college for business management and his language is Spanish, so we have been thinking of ways we could start something up.

  20. The top three trends that caught my attention were; you have to be passionate about it, if anyone ever doubts you, get rid of them, and to stop thinking about it and make it happen. The entrepreneur that I look up to the most is Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook has been one of the biggest social networks that has been created. It is also one of the top networks to be used consistently from the start. If I had to start something, it would probably be a business with things that people are looking for. Something that is in need for something around the area.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Three trends that I noticed with these millionaires are: stop thinking about it and do it, it's never to early to start, and last is to put yourself out there. The idea that stands out to me most is that it's never to early to start. This really stands out to me because it truly is never to early to start something. Along with these other millionaires I agree that if you start early an do not succeed then you are gaining experience. The experience that you will be gaining should be taken and turned into motivation to make you succeed at what you choose to do next with your life. If I had an ideas to start something up I would like to keep it secret. You can never be to careful when you inform someone if you want to start up a good idea because before you know it they can turn around and start your idea up without you even knowing. I would choose to create something that would help out with the equipment of hockey and how to get ride of the smell!

    ReplyDelete
  22. three trends that I learned from reading about the millionaires at such a young age is manly their attitude. they all tend to have a go out there and grab it kind of personality. each pursued their passion early because of the troubles that lie ahead with getting old. also they believed that there is no date to put on an idea, why not now is always the perfect time. If I had my idea I would keep it secret because I would believe that it would be worth more than one million dollars. I would choose to create a couch that never wears down and has the softest cushions.

    1. I think it's smart to keep it a secret especially if you are serious about an idea. Let me know when you invent that couch I will buy one!

  23. The three trends I noticed are that they all started at their youthful age, they were all passionate, and most of them started their business with the use of technology.Although some of them didnt attend college they still manage to have successful business and live a good life too. A business that i would start is a T-shirt business on the shirt is would say MMIG with crazy logos my audience would be teen 12-18 and adults the MMIG stands for (me myself and i gang) with teaches people that they don't have to try and fit in with people just be yourself because trying to be like someone else want help get no where in life

  24. The three trends i noticed is that you should not worry about the money, do something that you are passionate about and interested in doing. I also realized some of them did not attend college to be successful. I would start business that makes hats because a lot of people love wearing winter hats or baseball caps.
You can make a lot of money off of doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Three common trends were: do something you love and know about, how young they were when they started, and the use of the internet. I liked all of their ideas and thought that each of them were useful and not completely out there. I don't know if I would share my ideas with anyone until they were patented and I was the owner. If someone offered me that much money, it would be nice to pay for the costs of starting something of my own but then of course they would expect to be part of it as well so that would be an issue.
