  1. I think that this is a great idea. Not only is it different, but it gets people moving. I would definitely rather do squats than pay for something! If i could run a couple miles and earn some new shoes or something, there's no doubt I would do it. When I think of fitness promoting technology, I think of the Fitbit. Fitbit is a bracelet that tracks steps, distance, calories burned, stairs climbed, and even sleep. I think this is a simple an effective way to get people to move more throughout the day.

    1. I love the idea of running for shoes. I would be in such good shape if that was actually a thing! Fitbit sounds like a great way to monitor progress and motivate people to keep active.

    2. I would love being able to run to get things like shoes or clothes!!! That would be awesome!! Fitbit is an amazing thing!! I love mine, and it is great to monitor how much I do in the day.

    3. Running for free shoes sounds like something worth doing. I like the link and the product that they show. The fit bit looks like it would really help people with goals and learn about their daily life.

  2. this is a really great idea that gets people moving doing something with there body in an active way and its a little fun to if your doing it with people that that you like like your friends. but i also think its sad sometime that people dont like to exercise i know that its hard sometimes to get out of your couch and do something active but believe that if you can find something active that you love doing and you do that thing everyday that would be a great thing not only for your body but your self confidence. even if its just squats and sit ups http://www.active.com/fitness/articles/3-fast-cardio-workouts

    1. I agree that it would be great if people would realize what amazing benefits there are to staying active and wouldn't need any other motivation to do it. I understand that its hard for some people to find motivation though, so its great that there are other incentives out there to keep people active!

      Delete
    2. I totally agree because when you love something, you would see yourself doing that activity everyday. People who love what they do never fully lose interest, they will embrace it wholeheartedly, and it would turn into a routine for them.

    3. I agree i think this is a great idea because when you love doing something and are into it you will run and workout everyday.

  3. I love it! I think that this is a great way to promote fitness and I'm sure most would rather do 30 squats for a ticket than pay for it (I know I would!). It would be ideal if people would want to keep active to stay healthy and because its good for them, but I know from experience that sometimes its hard to find motivation to get active. I found an interesting article about an app that researchers at Stanford University created to motivate people to get moving, its a digital bird who's well being was determined by the user being active. If the person went for a walk, the bird would fly around and perhaps even sing. If the person sat around all day, the bird becomes sad and slow. I think it's great because it interacts with users and makes them feel like their working out is making a difference, even if it is just a game. http://www.sfgate.com/health/article/Games-prove-to-be-winning-fitness-motivators-4747370.php

    1. This is my first time hearing of this app but it seems like a great idea! It sounds like a great way of using technology for fitness. It even kindof reminds me of a tamagotchi I used to have when I was like 7, but with fitness added. Very cool idea.

    2. I agree 30 squats for a free ticket who could disagree. I dont know how much a subway ticket is but I'm going to guess maybe $2-3 dollars, so if you take the subway 5 days a week that is roughly $10 to 15 a week which is $520 to 780 a year, which means that every squat you do is worth $ .06 to .10. which seems like nothing but after a year you saved enough for an Ipad.

I think this digital bird app would be really cool and I may have to look into it!

  4. I love this idea!!! I think it is an amazing idea to get people motivated to be active. It is a great way to also promote the Olympics. People would be more willing to attend the Olympics if they didn't have to pay for it. I would love to exercise to get things instead of pay for them. Another way technology promotes fitness would be coming out with new gadgets that people think are cool and motivate them to use it. For example the Nike Fuelband. It is a wristband that has sensors that track your movement throughout the day. It transfers your activity movement into "Nike Fuel" points that lets you compete and compare to other people who have it. It also tracks steps and stairs throughout the day that will tell you if you are living a healthy lifestyle. It is amazing to see how much technology has grown.

    1. As these technologies better, and as more companies develop such gadgets, we can only see better results; and hopefully these devices can bring around kind of a fitness fad, making exercise a more common activity. I've pesonally seen the benefits of both the Nike Fuel and the Misfit Shine, I think these devices are a great step in the right direction and I hope many people adopt them.

  5. I think this is a great idea. Some other great examples of technology promoting fitness would be the treadmills with televisions built into them. They allow people to walk & jog while watching the morning news, or their favorite show. The gaming market seems to be integrating motion sensors into everything they possibly can. I think this will continue to grow and become one of the leading ways people work out on a daily basis. The new Xbox One ships with a camera that is capable of monitoring your heart rate along with weight displacement. The link below is to a video of a gamer attempting to do the Insanity workout on the Xbox One.

    1. I think that the televisions in treadmills is a cool thing because it helps you from thinking about how much running and working out isn't fun. It is amazing to see how they have developed video games to try and help people be more active, also bringing in zumba and other active games to help.

      Delete
    2. Paul this is great!! I wish I had a tread mill with a TV, cause I know those hours put in on a treadmill or elliptical would have gone by a hell of a lot quicker and easier !
I agree with Shelby it would make it easier to work out when your watching TV instead of thinking about how tired and bored you are.

      Delete
    3. I would agree that watching TV while walking on a treadmill is a great way to workout and kill time. Even reading a book would be great. For those who find walking to be boring it would diffidently help to get their minds off the walking, and to focus on something they find more enjoyable.

      Delete
    4. Having a tv in the treadmill would be awesome! It could help you take your mind off of the exercise. It could help you relax and go for a longer time as well

  6. I'm not that outgoing of a person so it would be rather embarrassing for me to do several squats in front of people I don't know. However I think that doing exercises to pay for something like a ticket is a great idea. I like that technology is promoting and making it easier to exercise regularly. Some thing simple like listening to your iPod can make exercising seem less like work and more like something that can actually be relaxing in its own way.

    2. I have always loved exercising to music. I feel awkward without music. it is almost like I have to watch everything without music. but with it I can just zone out and be in my own world not worrying about anyone or any thing else. I love this idea, I kinda want to try it I am so uncoordinated it isn't funny. maybe this will help lol.

    3. i love listening to music while i exercise so i agree with you! I can also see why some people would not be exactly outgoing enough to do squats in front of people!

  7. Squats for a free ticket? I love that idea. That is a great idea to get someone to save some money just by doing some exercise. I was playing around in the app store on my phone one day and I found this application called Pact. Pact you make a goal of going to the gym as many times a week and if you go you get paid. If you don't go you do not get paid and you actually pay Pact.

    4. I love the idea of the Pact app. Its also a little creepy if it can accurately track if you exercise. I know if I had to pay if i didn't work out I would be going to the gym more often. I'm going to be looking into this app.

  8. This is a great idea to promote exercise. I would like to see this kind of initiatives here in the United States. I think this kind of examples could help the budget of regular people and their health. Technology has been promoting fitness through video games, media, and sport events. For example, the PlayStation Move, which you can step, jump, dance, and have fun at home. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9ybHddDMgM

  10. I believe integrating exercise into the daily routine, like riding a subway in this example, or like I've seen many people do: walking the treadmill while they watch TV; is a good way to make a habit of getting the daily recommended amount of exercise. I've also seen people sign up for programs that pay them for keeping on a regular diet and costs them any time they break it. I think programs and tools like this are a great way for society to get the point across (especially to the younger generation) that exercise is important. One of the cool devices I've seen that have helped people I know personally get fit, is the misfit shine.

  12. I have seen the squats for subway tickets video before and I think it is an awesome idea. The fitness based technology that grabs my attention is all the trackers and wearable technology. One thing in particular has really sparked my interest and that is the Jaybird Reign. It is a band that you wear that tells you your normal fitness info like activity and sleep, but it also tells you when to be more active and how much sleep you should aim for that night.

  13. I thought this idea was awesome! It looked like people enjoyed it, and it is a great way to get a little exercise in! It will help keep people active I mean who wouldn't do 30 squats for a free subway ticket?! This is very innovated and different, that will help keep people fit. I think its cool that someone had this idea for this project and it went through. Other ways technology promotes fitness are you can get fitness and diet apps on your phone, wii fit, and work out videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3I3P99zKvk

It can Track your steps and activity throughout the day. it can be synced through blue tooth to your phone and has and app. It even almost is like social media, it keeps a score of what your fitness is compared to the rest of the Fuel Band users. This makes it so that you can see where you stack up in relation to the rest of the world. Overall, this is a cool gadget!

My little tech savy fitness promotion would be the Zombies Run App, hopefully un mentioned. I came across is a while back and have been hoping to try it out this summer. 17. I think this idea of doing squats to get a ticket is really cool. A lot of people are obese and by doing squats and lunges, they could burn few calories. Nowadays, people are busy with work and school and have no time to exercise; this machine could help those people stay healthy and fit.
Newer technologies have been used to promote physical activity including pedometers, accelerometers, and heart rate monitors. These technologies help monitor the number of steps taken per day, your heart rate and or the average speed of your run per day.

There are so many benefits with it. It promotes exercise by bribing people in a way to exercise. It is something as simple as squats but it is a great start.

I think technology is promoting fitness a lot more these days because it makes it more fun to exercise and it gives ordinary people the ability to track their exercises and fitness easier and a lot more accurately than before.

Our country is dying from obesity and living off of fast foods. Things that are placed around the world like this can be life changing. Other technology that can promote fitness are thing such as; Wii fit, fitness and motivation apps, tracking guides, weight loss guide, or even workout tapes like insanity or p90x.
