The search continues...

We have already blogged about this tragedy in this class however there is a link to an article below that provides a current update.  How has this search evolved over the past month? Have you been following the search?  From a technology standpoint, what are the pieces that intrigue you the most?  If this tragedy had occurred 50 years ago, how would the search and media coverage have differed?  Share your thoughts!

  1. Plain and simple, I think this horrible. It's such a sad thing that with all the technology we have in today's day and age and we can't find an airplane. I am just so confused how we can't find something that big. This story is slowly fading away from the news headlines because there is no progressing information. If/when they find the plane, then the media will be blowing up with it and it will be the talk for a day or two, then they story will fade away just like every other one.

    1. It is crazy to think of how fast the story faded away. I agree it will fade fast.

    2. I agree that the story has faded away, there is nothing new to keep people interested in it.

    3. I also am very confused with how they cannot find something as big as a plane. Technology and search crews are able to find bodies that have disappeared in the lakes and things, why has it been so difficult to find a huge plane?

    4. What surprises me is how there isn't much evidence like debris floating in the ocean like when other planes have gone down into the ocean.

  2. They are starting to figure out what might have caused the crash. I have not been paying attention to this at all. It is crazy how they are figuring out what might have happened. It is outstanding how they are figuring this out now when it happened so long ago. 50 years ago they would not have put this much effort into the search and research.

    1. I haven't been paying attention to the search either, they keep saying the same things there's no new info

    2. I agree that some of this information should definitely have been found earlier.

  3. I haven't been following the search lately, it happened over a month ago now and there is still not much new information on what happened. It is interesting that the co-pilot's phone was on during the flight because that is very unusual. I wonder if he was trying to contact someone, maybe this information will help the people searching find out more about what happened on that flight. I can't believe that with the technology that we have today they wouldn't have put a gps tracker on the plane or something so it could be found if something like this happened. I hope that the deep-sea scanning yields some results and maybe the plane will be found yet. If this had happened 50 years ago I think the search would have been given up a long time ago because they did not have the advanced technology to search with that we do.

    1. I was also wondering if the co pilot turned his phone on to try and get a hold of someone.

    2. On the same boat as you with the whole GPS tracking of the plane.
Once the plane is found what is the next step, do they try to recover it when its 2-3 miles beneath the surface?

    3. I thought the sane too, it is very unusual for the co-pilot to have his phone on but I think he was probably trying to contact someone.

      Delete
    4. Yeah you think the co-pilot himself would know not to have it on.

  4. I have not been following the search since last time we blogged about it, but I have heard a little bit here and there about it. Over the past month they have narrowed down the search a fair amount and have also moved to different methods of searching. The technological aspect that catches my attention the most is definitely the Bluefin Sonar Scanner. I think it is pretty amazing that there is a robot that can basically paint a picture of the sea floor. If this happened 50 years ago the search would have been extremely less advanced, long, and honestly an entire different process. Media coverage would probably have tapered off by this point because of lack of information.

  5. This whole story is so crazy to me. It is so hard to believe that they still haven't found this plane. With as much technology that we have its incredible that this is such a mystery. 50 years ago I think that this would not be receiving as much attention. I haven't really paid all too much attention to this because it basically is the same thing over and over again that they put on the news. I hope they find it eventually so that all the families that lost loved ones can get some closure.

    1. It is amazing to me that they have not found the missing plane also. I feel like with how advanced technology is and is becoming it should have been found already. I am curious to see what the final story is when everything unfolds.

    2. I agree it is really nuts that the plane has not yet been recovered. I honestly thought that all planes, especially a plane of this size, were tracked continuously through out the air by radar.

    3. I agree with all this advanced technology how have they not found the plane yet? It is just way crazy and i hope they find it for closure as well.

    4. You have a very good point. with all of the technology we have, it seems like it would be easy to figure out what happened.

  6. It is amazing to me that with how advanced technology and searching is now days that they can not find a plane that went missing. I have watched and listened for information on this topic and tried to find out what I could from watching the news. I think that if this would have happened 50 years ago we would be in the same situation the that we are right now, still looking with a lot of unanswered questions. I think the thing that is most was most interesting about this situation and the article is that they found the cell phone signals from to co pilot. I don't understand why his cell phone was even on because they are very serious about shutting phones off during flights. I hope that they eventually come to a close with what has happened so that everyone can put this terrible thing behind us.

    1. I was thinking maybe we really don't have that good of an advanced technology that could find missing planes or maybe the wrong people has the advanced technology.

    2. I agree, if this happened 50 years ago, we would be the same as we are today. Unanswered questions. Period.

  7. I think technologically the story has gotten more technical globally as everyone involved with the search are pulling out their top of the line pieces of equipment to aid in finding the plane. I think the story it self is fading as after in first happened it was really big and now you hardly hear people talk about it. At first I even checked on regularly and in the last week or two i haven't thought about it until now.
The technology that intrigued me the most would for sure be the piece of equipment that listened for the pinging of the black box.
Had this happened 50 years ago, I think the search of the plane would have seized or at least drastically declined, and the ruling on the plane would be lost at sea.

    1. I agree, it is amazing that this is such a difficult search with all the technology we have today.

  8. This is one of the most difficult searches in history. Looking for a plane at the bottom of the ocean is very hard. That explains why the missing plane hasn't been found. The search of flight 370 has evolved over the past month because experts have searched and analyzed almost every area the plane could have been hiding. It’s intriguing how the co-pilot had his cellphone on and how there is still no evidence or clue of what happened to the plane. All of the technology they have used so far has been unsuccessful in finding the plane. I can’t even imagine the pain of those passengers; they could be anywhere, probably still alive or had a horrible death. If this tragedy had occurred 50 years ago, the search would have been unproductive and may have ended few days after nothing was found.

    1. I thought it was kind of weird to how they think he may have had his phone on, and if it was on... why?

  9. They are now starting to scan the sea floor for more clues. It sounds to me like they have done everything they can at this point to help find the missing plane. I have followed the search a little sometimes the news will be on in the cafeteria and i will watch a little bit about it, but it breaks my heart. From a technology standpoint the thing that intrigues me the most is how they narrowed it down to an exact area where the plane could have crashed. If this would have happened fifty years ago they would not have been able to narrow down where the plane could have crashed and they would not be able to use the technology they are using today to try and find it.

    1. I agree completely! Its crazy how they can use technology to scan the ocean floor to look for the plane. They are doing everything they can.

    2. I agree with saying that if this had happened 50 years ago they could not have used technology they do today.

  10. I just do not understand how you can lose an airplane! Don't the airlines have a tracker or a radar or something to keep track of each plane, when they take of and when thy land or even the route that they are headed?? I just don't see how you can lose track of a plane. It breaks my heart listening to this stuff. Imagine being a family member of someone that was on that plane and not knowing what happened, where they are, and if they are even alive or not. The one thing that intrigued me the most is how hard they are trying to find this plane. They are now scanning the ocean floor in the recommended area for this plane. I think that if this tragedy were to have happened 50 years ago, they would have no idea where to even start with this search. The advances in technology have made the search incredibly easier, but they still are having trouble and doing everything they can.

    2. The effort they are putting into this search is indeed impressive. Hopefully something turns up from it.

  11. This is one topic that I have not really followed. The first time that I heard about this topic was when we discussed this in class. I think that this is sad. With how much people say out technology has advanced and we can't find a plane? I think that if this would have happened 50 years ago the result would be about the same as it is today. They haven't made progress on finding anything and also the topic is starting to fade off the news and topics for other people since it is at a standstill.

    1. I agree our technology isn't as advanced as people say it is because this wouldve been solved by now

    2. People tend to believe that we've advanced as a whole into a great technological age. Thought we've come a long way we still have a ways to go. Hopefully one day we will have the technology and will be able to prevent this happening again .

  12. I haven't following this topic at all, mostly due to the fact it's not on the news as much. I am really surprised at how they still don't really know what happened. There should be more measures taken to ensure this wont happen again. Possibly having a camera inside the cockpit that broadcasts to one of the airport terminal towers. If this would have happened 50 years ago i think the results would be identical to what they are now.

  13. They are starting to figure out what might have caused the crash. I have not being following this topic we discussed earlier in class. I still feel after months for us not to be able to find out what caused it and were it happened is just sad, and its telling us that we need to really advance our technology how everybody it is because it can't be to adavnce. If this happened 50 years ago, to me everything would be the exact same.

    1. I have been following this story but I feel like if I haven't been checking it that much I wouldn't be missing out on anything. It's a very slow process and surprising it's gone on this long.

  14. I honestly have not been following the search at all. From what I gather they make some progress everyday but they still don't know what happened to it. It would be even harder to identify an aircraft fifty years ago. There would've been more media and less items to search with. I honestly feel like with the technology that we have today that we should never be able just to "lose" anything.

  15. Its amazing that they haven't found anything really on the whereabouts of the plane. With the technology today one would believe that something would turn up. Everything they do have seems to be inconclusive in some aspect. From the looks of it however, everything that could've gone wrong with this flight seems to have. I haven't been keeping up to date on the investigation but I do hope that they find something soon. I feel like if this had happened 50 years ago very little would be found and the coverage wouldn't last that long as a result.

    1. I agree. 50 years ago it would have been much harder to search and to update people on it.

  16. They are continuing to pinpoint where exactly they think the plane is. The U.S. was waiting for a good time to send out underwater drones. They discovered there was a phone call made minutes before takeoff as well as what time the transmitter was shut off. I have been following this story and try to read updates about it everyday. The technology used is impressive considering how deep a drone can go underwater and withstand the pressure. If this was 50 years ago there might not be day to day updates on the story.

  17. I dont understand how they can't find a plane. With all the technology in this world i think they should go and find the plane. I am shocked that this happened 50 years ago and they still didnt find it. I would like to know what went wrong with this flight.

  18. They are starting to get closer to discovering exactly what caused the crash. It might still take awhile to solve the case, but at least hey are making progress. I have not been following the search, but it is interesting to learn that despite all of our current technology, we still do not have a definite answer.

  19. I think this is such a sad situation and I am still so amazed that with all technology we have today, we cannot find an airplane. Not only do we not know where it is, but we have no idea how or why it got off track. I think that this was such a big deal because of the fact that we are so advanced in technology. I believe that 50 years ago, this would not have blown up as much because we simply did not have the technology and advancements to locate it as easily.

  20. I think there has not been enough effort put into this situation. It is such a sad story and I feel so horrible for the people on the plane as well as their families. Not knowing what has went on is probably the hardest thing for everyone to accept. The media I believe is not showing as much as they know. They have to be careful what and how they show things too. Fifty years ago they more than likely would tell all, every detail would be shared, but now with all the terrorism involved they have to be careful.
