It seems as though many trends in technology start out by causing people to shake their heads and say "that will never become popular!" And before we know it, we don't know how we lived without that certain technological advance - Facebook and Cell Phones are prime examples! :) Here is another invention that might be heading right down that path. When these glasses were first introduced there was a large crowd laughing that they would never become mainstream. With the new improvements, they might just be the next big thing we start to wonder how we ever lived without! What do you think? Find another example of some"outrageous" technology that either became hugely popular or became a joke (Hello Snuggies!)

I think the glasses are a good idea, but in a way I do not see how they made it big. Watching the video on the link it showed the person was able to use google maps in the corner of their glasses. I mean we have all have to use GPS once or more in our life to find our way around. The concept I am getting at is you are taking your eye or eyes off the road for a split second.
ReplyDeleteOne technology that I never thought would make it was twitter. Now, celebrities are all over it posting stuff with millions of followers. A lot of people have twitter and I have seen many people using this app on their phone or computer. It became huge.
Even if it does eliminate the amount of time that your eyes are off of the road, it could still end up being another risk of accidents. We might as well add it to the long list of reasons we already have as many accidents as we do around the world.

DeleteI think that the glasses in ways could be an invasion of privacy. Yes, there are things you can use on these that are hands free, but being able to record videos, take pictures, etc, I feel that it could get out of hand. Next thing we know, these glasses are either become a big hit for tech savvy people, or a big problem for others.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that comes to mind on something that I thought was never going to work is the Snapchat app. When this first came out, I thought, why take a "selfie" when we can just text? Now today that snapchat app has progressed immensely over that past year or so. I never thought that I would like it, but its just another form of communication that I use in my everyday life.
Some of my friends who didn't like Snapchat ended up liking it after they got it on their phones.

DeleteI think Google glasses are good and bad at the same time. It’s great how you could see the map of where you’re going but that’s not very safe when driving because you don’t want to look at the corner of your eye when the road is ahead of you. You could easily lose focus of what’s happening around you which could cause an accident. These glasses are only good for taking pictures and videos when not driving, but I guess every technology has its own advantages and disadvantages.
ReplyDeleteYouTube is one of the technology that I didn't think would be popular now. Almost everyone has a YouTube account and millions of people post a lot of educating videos. YouTube is not only used for watching music videos but also used to communicate with people and learn new different things. You would be surprised what you will find on YouTube and I like how you can get YouTube app on your cellphone.
I also thought of YouTube while doing this blog. I didn't think that it was going to be popular but now people are becoming famous off of videos that they have posted. It is crazy how fast things become popular.

I was just talking about a similar invention that i think will take the lime light over google glass. The big thing is how it will infiltrate the market. If they take the route of shoving it down our throats it will fail. If the technology takes the role of Apple and they make it "cool" it will become another catalyst in our society.

I think it could be bad because it just makes a person rely that much more on technology. It could be dangerous if they used it at the wrong time. I know a lot of people that use pinterest for everyday things such as cleaning suggestions, food recipes, and hair styles. It is a way to share ideas and learn a lot of new things as you research. I know that I personally have used this a lot since I got an account and has showed me a lot of new things.

ReplyDeleteI think that these glasses are awesome! It is so amazing that something we used to see on tv shows about spies and the future is now a reality. It is incredible to see how far technology has come! I was especially impressed that Google teamed up with the makers of Oakley. This means that the glasses will be not only functional but also stylish! One thing that I thought wouldn't take off was the Ipad. In my eyes it was just an over sized Ipod Touch. It is now one of the most sought after gadgets!

DeleteI find the glasses to be pretty impressive. They are making up new ways to make more stuff hands free and easy to use. As far as the being able to take videos and pictures and this being an invasion of privacy, what is the difference between this and a cell phone. You can do all the same things on a cell phone as the glasses, so I do not get way everybody goes with that idea. I think that Google has came up with something new and exciting and I can not wait to try them if they become open to the public.
ReplyDeleteI think that one of the biggest things that has ever came out is the Kindle. This has changed reading in so many ways. This really started the out break in purchasing e-books, purchasing books, and other reading material. The Kindle has made it to were you can read anything, anywhere and anytime you wish.
Kindles have really taken over the book scene, but positively for sure.

DeleteThe Google glass has always been a pretty cool idea to me, but I just don't know how effective it would be in some cases. I think the partnership with big glasses companies is definitely an advantage as style was not the glasses strong suit. just like phones and every technology I'm sure the glasses will advance greatly in the next few months, and soon enough they will become more popular. One thing that sticks out in my mind that I once thought was outrageous is the wristbands that track your heart rate, steps, etc. These things are making a pretty big impact on some peoples life now and they are fairly popular.
ReplyDeleteIt is always exciting to hear about the next new invention, and these glasses do sound pretty cool. It is interesting to hear what they are capable of, and on such a tiny screen. I think that the screen would be distracting though, and it almost sounds like a spy gadget where you could secretly take pictures or videos without being noticed. I honestly don't think that this product will take off though, or if it does it won't go very far and will be used mainly by tech enthusiasts but not by the average person. One product that I never thought would make it was the iPod armband. When I first saw it I thought that it looked kinda silly and surely no one would want to wear their ipod on their arm as they worked out. Turns out I was wrong though, as the product became pretty popular and many people bought them, including myself!

How many times in the average day do you want to know something but don't have your phone or don't have proper necessities to be able to answer your own question. With the google glasses you can just ask and it'll show you. I think television is one of those things that became popular so quick. People didn't really care for it at the start then everyone couldn't live without it for even a day. Tv is the original example of the technology that we cannot live without.
ReplyDeleteSomebody brought these up to me last year and i kind of thought that it was a dumb idea until i watched the video and realized how much it would actually help. there are so many times throughout a day that i look at google on my phone, so this would be so much easier just to put them on ask and have your answer pop up! there are so many popular apps for cellphones now that many many people have. Instagram Twitter and many games!

Many humans these days are looking for easier means of life, stuff that is less time consuming to do. ReplyDeleteYears ago many people did not believe in the apple iphone. They thought that a whole touch screen face phone would just simply not work, you need buttons. However the iphone is simply dominating the cell phone industry. Pushing the market to all touch screen. Its amazing to see certain things that could seem goofy now will be an every day necessity.
I actually thought that Google Glass was going to take off, and I kind of always thought it would. The ability to blur the lines between reality and the technological world is where all technology is slowly heading. I believe in time the kind of nerve-controlled prosthetic arms that are being made now will be a step towards having completely integrated computer, being directly connected to a network as a person.

I understand the idea of a virtual gaming experience is cool, but it has failed in the past (i.e. virtual boy) and you have to be doing something right to take a failed technology, improve it, and make it a hit,
I was also surprised at how popular the Oculus Rift became. Though in someways it could be expected with the promotion it got, especially through youtube.

I personally would not buy any glasses unless i really needed them to see because i always lose glasses. I would take the glasses for free because they will get played out soon and no one will rock them or wear them.

I see your point. I know I've looked at people who seemed to be talking to themselves only to see them turn and spot the little Bluetooth device on their head. It would be slightly ridiculous to talk to your glasses.

ReplyDeleteI feel that i want wear the google glasses because to me they are dangerous and why should i wear them if i dont have to wear glasses but if someone gave them to me i would take them out of respect but i wouldn't wear them. When i was in middle school they came out with see through shoes that wasnt a good idea because the part that was clear cracked so easy and the shoe would be ruined very fast. Ideas like these you have to just really rethink what your trying to sell and is it beneficial to people.

I remember when the phone watch first came out I was so surprised and thought it was so impressive. I know a couple of people who have the watch so that is already becoming common.
ReplyDeleteWhile it does seem like an interesting idea, I almost think that the Google glasses may be unnecessary. Maybe I am over-thinking it, but it just seems like another distraction for people when they are supposed to be doing something else. It just seems like people have enough trouble with everyone being constantly on their cell phones and that this could end up being the same sort of issue or possibly being worse. Again, cool idea and definitely something to look further into but I could see some pretty easy downsides to this as well.

I think these glasses are awesome but they have their negatives as well. These could be very distracting if not used at the proper times and with the proper judgment.
ReplyDeleteI never thought that Facebook would be anywhere near as popular as it is now. I never wanted to even join it but now I am so glad I did it is turning into a mini google almost where you can shop, search for your friends and keep in touch.
